Gilkes is a major manufacturer of hydropower equipment based in Kendal in the Lake District, with offices in the USA, too.
They required an iOS app for iPad to provide detailed datasheets to clients attending conferences and exhibitions.
I was responsible for the app prototype and the interface design in tandem with the development team.
The main deliverables for this project were:
The app dashboard had to look great, and function in a user-friendly way. We kept things simple - four main product caregories and a menu system which would allow users to get to these different areas within two taps.
The datasheets were arguably the most important element of the app - users needed to be able to download them to view later, send them via email, or view the datasheets instantly. To accommodate multiple datasheets for this feature, I implemented a basket-inspired system which allowed users to select or deselect datasheets and brochures from their basket, and then email the bundle to a recipient.
Our team had already created a number of beautiful printed brochures, so we decided to implement a digital version on the app so users could send a copy to themselves to read later if they couldn't carry a physical copy.
